“The NHL is aware of reports that a homophobic slur was used during the Maple Leafs-Lightning game. The league is investigating the incident and will have no further comment until this investigation is completed,” said the league.
I find it interesting on a night where Russell Westbrook was apparently verbally abused by a fan, we have another incident where potentially a player said something and there’s basically no coverage of it on ESPN on TV this morning.
I realize the NHL is basically ignored by ESPN, but between this and issues like hate groups showing up at NYCFC games, we have to have a zero tolerance stance on this as a society and not just hope the leagues will do something about it.
UPDATE: The NHL is now saying no slur was used by a player.
